Karana did not have any food with her, so she had to eat the food that was growing on the island. Unfortunately, the food growing on the island was only available during the spring and summer.

Karana had to work very hard during the spring and summer to prepare for the fall and winter. She had to save enough food to last her for many cold months.

WinterFall

During the winter, Karana spent most of the time in her shelter. She did not have choices for foods like you do; she could only eat what was available on the island.
